Joan A. Bolland, B.A., has more than 20 years of experience as both a generalist and specialist in Human Resources management in the business and not-for-profit sectors. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ms. Bolland holds certificates in Personnel and Industrial Relations, and Human Resources Management. Matthew L.O. Certosimo, LL.B., is a partner in the Labour and Employment Law Group of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. In his practice, he acts for private and public sector employers in wrongful dismissal actions and before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and on labour relations and employment law matters, including grievance arbitrations and collective bargaining. Mr. Certosimo is a graduate of Dalhousie University Law School and Wilfrid Laurier University. Colin Dawes is the founder of the Human Resources Benchmarking Network (HRBN), a voluntary, cross-Canada network of HR disciplines in the public, para-public and private sectors. As leader of the HRBN, and author of the Network's Annual Benchmarking Survey Report, Mr. Dawes has been advising HR professionals since 1966 and is a frequent speaker on the topic of benchmarking in HR. Gordon F. Luborsky

Gordon F. Luborsky graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1982 and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1984. Between 1982 and 1993 he was employed at the labour and employment law firm Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie, as an Articling Student, Associate and Partner. In January, 1994 he became the Senior Vice President and General Counsel and a Director of Premier Salons Canada Inc., and the Magicuts group of companies, with responsibilities for all legal, human resources, franchise development, labour and employment matters throughout the companies' world wide operations. In October, 1995 he joined the law firm Lang Michener, as co-chair of that firm's Employment and Labour Law Practice Group. In January, 1998 Mr. Luborsky began his own practice, concentrating in employment and labour law, with growing involvement as an arbitrator and mediator in employment, labour and franchise/commercial disputes.

J. Bruce MacDonald, F.S.A., F.C.I.A., brings more than 40 years of experience in benefits administration, life insurance and pension issues, with Crown Life and William M. Mercer Ltd. He is a fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and The International Association of Consulting Actuaries. John Meyer

John Meyer received his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1978, where he is currently professor and chair of the graduate program in industrial and organizational psychology. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association and a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the National Academy of Management. Ellen E. Mole, LL.B., is a labour arbitrator and mediator, a vice-chair of the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and a former vice-chair of the Ontario Public Service Labour Relations Tribunal. Deborah Moon

Deborah Moon (Chartered FCIPD) has a broad range of personnel management experience in the public sector, primarily local government.

Deborah has a sound understanding of both operational service and corporate personnel roles gained during her time with Kent County Council in the UK, after which she spent four years with Medway Council when it was first established as a new Unitary Authority.

Her local government experience focused on the areas of pay, benefits and employee relations, policy development and review, advising senior managers and councillors on the HR aspects of major organizational change and a lead role for equalities in employment. While at Medway Council. Brad Rafauli

Brad Rafauli, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., is an associate at the Toronto office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and practises in all areas of employment law, representing management, employers and employees. Along with a particular interest in wrongful dismissal and employment-related litigation, Mr. Rafauli has experience with the enforcement of restrictive covenants, including non-solicitation and non-competition clauses. He is very active in providing training and educational workshops to clients, human resource professionals, managers and supervisors on all employment related manners. Glenn M. Rampton

Glenn M. Rampton is the chief executive officer of Community Living Algoma. Prior to this, he held senior HR positions in a number of settings, including Canada Post Corporation and York University. In 1983, he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces, where he had been commanding officer of the Forces Personnel Applied Research Unit.

Dilys Robertson

Dilys Robertson is an Ontario-based occupational health and safety consultant and writer. Her career as an independent consultant in the field of workplace health and safety in both Ontario and Manitoba spans more than 20 years. She also taught workplace health and safety programs at the University of Manitoba for ten years. Ms. Robertson has sat on several Technical Committees of the Canadian Standards Association and recently developed an electronic resource to support CSA's Z1000 standard on occupational health and safety management systems. She also coordinated the National Work Injury Statistics Program for the Association of Workers Compensation Boards of Canada for over ten years. She is a prolific writer in the field of OH&S. Her Carswell publications alone include: ABCs of OHS, Ontario, Ontario OH&S Act Quick Reference, Best Practices Health and Safety, Health and Safety Audit Toolkit, Accident Investigation and SafetySource (of which she is the Editor). Hugh Secord

Hugh Secord has his Masters of Business Administration (Finance) from York University, an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Sociology, Economics) from the University of Toronto and his Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. He has twenty-three years of experience in Labour Relations and Human Resources Management, the majority of which has been at the executive level. He has extensive experience in the manufacturing and distribution industries where he has acted as chief spokesman in over seventy-five collective agreements. Mr. Secord has written over one hundred articles on Labour Relations and Human Resources topics. In addition, he has taught Employment Law and Organizational Behaviour and has spoken on labour topics in various forums.

David Sherman, LL.B., LL.M., is a Toronto lawyer specializing in both income tax and GST. Susan M. Singh

Susan M. Singh, B.A., M.Sc., CHRP, is the principal of Sumack Consulting. She has an Honours B.A. from Carleton University and a M.Sc. from the University of Alberta. Ms. Singh has worked in the public service at the federal, provincial and municipal levels; this includes experience working for three provincial governments: Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. She has managed staff in a range of work situations, including staff on field assignments, staff in administrative units, and staff with professional designations. Ms. Singh contributed to a major review on the delivery of internal administration in the public service. She currently edits the Canadian Benefits Bulletin, and has had many articles on human resources issues published in major trade magazines. The Honourable Mr. Justice John R. Sproat is a Justice of the Ontario Superior Court and a former partner at Miller, Thomson LLP in Toronto. He has also been a frequent lecturer at numerous conferences and continuing education programs presented by such organizations as the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Institute. While in private practice, he was actively involved, not only in employment related litigation, but also in advising employers on preventative practices, policies and procedures that can be implemented to reduce exposure to wrongful dismissal actions and human rights and employment standards complaints.
